Safety Rules to Follow in Lakeside Chautauqua
Lakeside is a “Slow-Go” community. Move slowly and use caution at all times. Bicycles must obey all traffic signs, including stop signs, stopping at crosswalks and one-way street signs. This is a State of Ohio Law. Golf carts and cars must also obey traffic signs. Pedestrians must cross at crosswalks when provided. No bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, hover boards or golf carts are permitted on the lakefront path or the nature/walking trail. No skateboards, rollerblades or hover boards are permitted in the Lakeside Business District. Bicyclists of all ages should wear helmets when riding. Bicycles and golf carts must use lights when driving after dark. Alert all pedestrians of your presence when attempting to pass them in the dark. Encourage all children and families to participate in the Bicycle Rodeo & Safety Inspection Program. This is offered to youth ages 4-12. During the summer season, please refer to the weekly Lakesider newspaper for day and time. Always give pedestrians the right of way. Lakeside strongly encourages the wearing of seat belts when operating a golf cart. Never hold another passenger on your lap when riding in a golf cart. Use extreme caution in high traffic areas and intersections.
In Case of Fire at The Fountain Inn or Hotel Lakeside
Please follow the exit maps, which are posted on each hotel room door. If a fire is inside your room: leave your room immediately, and close the door. Report the fire to the hotel front desk staff or by pulling the alarm. If a fire is not in your room: test the door (not the doorknob) with your hand for heat before opening. If the door is hot: stay in your room. Contact the front desk staff for help. Fill the tub with water and seal around doors and cracks with wet towels. Cover your face with wet towels. Wait for help. If the door is cool: take your room key. Open the door slowly. Walk to the nearest stairwell, and exit to the street. If hall is smoky, stay low. Do NOT use the elevator.
In Case of Tornado at Hotel Lakeside or Fountain Inn
Peak season for tornadoes in Ohio is April-July, however tornadoes can occur any time, day or night. If a tornado watch is issued: stay alert to the possibility of a tornado development in the area. If a tornado warning is issued: a tornado has been sighted or is indicated by radar. Seek the nearest tornado safety location. Guests with rooms on the ground floor should seek shelter in the bathrooms of their room. Second and third floor guests will be instructed to proceed to the interior hallways on the ground floor.
